Endoscopy Learning Zone

Endoscopy Learning Zone

The 57th Annual Meeting of ESPGHAN is delighted to host the Endoscopy Learning Zone (ELZ) in Helsinki, Finland.

The Endoscopy Learning Zone allows for hands-on training in various diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy techniques:

The hands-on training is performed on biological models and simulators to achieve optimum simulation and interaction. The training is supervised by some of the most experienced paediatric endoscopists in all of Europe and will be performed in small groups to improve your skills in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

Participation at the ELZ is limited due to room capacity. Therefore, and due to its high popularity, we kindly ask that everybody registered will not miss their confirmed session time.

Introducing – Allied Health Professionals (AHP): Multi-Disciplinary Endoscopy Training:

Join us at the inaugural Allied Health Professional (AHP) Station in the Endoscopy Learning Zone at ESPGHAN for a fun, hands-on introduction to the world of paediatric endoscopy.  This friendly and interactive session is perfect for endoscopy-naive or endoscopy-curious professionals who want to explore what it’s like behind the scope. Whether you’re simply curious or considering a deeper dive into endoscopy, this session will give you a chance to:

  • Get hands-on with basic endoscopy tools
  • Learn about the vital non-technical skills that make the team work
  • Share your own experiences and learn from others
  • Network with like-minded professionals in a relaxed setting

Come curious, leave inspired—and maybe ready to dive in!

AHP – Multi-Disciplinary Endoscopy Training Session

Aims:
  • To introduce allied health professionals and trainees to the fundamentals of endoscopy in a supportive, hands-on environment.
  • To explore the importance of non-technical skills—such as teamwork, communication, and role clarity—in the endoscopy suite.
  • To demystify endoscopic procedures and environments, encouraging confidence and curiosity in participants new to the field.
  • To foster a multi-disciplinary understanding of safety protocols, workflow, and collaborative roles in endoscopy.
  • To evaluate the structure and effectiveness of the AHP training station and gather feedback for future improvements.
Learning Objectives:
  • By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
  • Identify and describe key non-technical skills essential for effective team performance in the endoscopy setting, including:
    • Role identification and clarity
    • Communication techniques
    • Leadership and shared goals
    • Patient safety practices
  • Experience basic endoscopic handling through practical activities, including manipulating an endoscope and simulating a biopsy, to build familiarity and reduce apprehension.
  • Recognize the roles and contributions of various team members in the endoscopy suite and understand how collaboration enhances patient care.
  • Discuss and compare local practices by reviewing and reflecting on pre-endoscopy checklists and sign-out processes brought by participants.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the AHP training station, offering feedback on its effectiveness and suggesting areas for improvement in future workshops.

Please note that the AHP station in the Endoscopy Learning Zone is distinct from the Endoscopy Learning Zone itself. Separate registration will be required for the AHP station. Further details on the registration process will be provided soon. Please be aware that registering for the AHP station does not include registration for the Endoscopy Learning Zone.
